Needle-free mesotherapy with Dermadrop TDA: how oxygen pushes serums 3.5 mm deep, and who it suits

TDA is Transdermal Application, a method developed by the German company Meddrop BioMedical Technologies. The device draws in ambient air, filters it into medical-grade oxygen (about 98 percent concentration in the published lab work) and uses that oxygen to break the serum into ultra-fine droplets. According to the manufacturer, these droplets leave the applicator at roughly 265 metres per second, faster than the speed of sound, and are pressed into the skin without a single puncture.

The second component is the carrier. Every Dermadrop cartridge is built on the LP3 complex, a lipid-based matrix that, per the manufacturer, temporarily loosens the lamellar structure of the epidermis by about 65 percent so the actives can slip through. The manufacturer states that active substances diffuse to a depth of up to 3.5 mm, which corresponds to the dermis on the face. Independent research has not yet measured that depth on living human skin, so we treat 3.5 mm as the producer’s figure rather than a settled fact.

What has been measured: an in vitro study on porcine skin (Franz diffusion cells, published 2022) found that Dermadrop TDA increased permeation of test substances 2 to 7 times compared with simply applying the same volume to the surface, with no histological damage to the skin. The effect was strongest for small molecules and weaker as molecular weight rose. That single detail explains most of what the method can and cannot do.

A Dermadrop protocol at SOLAR takes 30 to 40 minutes:

• cleansing and, if the skin allows, a light enzymatic or acid pre-peel to remove dead cells;
• the TDA stage: the applicator glides 1.5 to 2 cm above the skin, delivering micro-pulses of serum; clients describe it as a cool, slightly pressurised breeze;
• a soothing mask and SPF.

There is no anaesthetic cream, no bleeding, no papules. Makeup can go on the same day. This is the reason the treatment is often booked the morning of an event, a wedding shoot or a flight: the immediate effect is a plumped, evenly hydrated surface with reduced redness.

Cartridges are chosen for the task rather than applied as a fixed cocktail:

• hyaluronic acid of low and medium molecular weight for dehydration, the most common complaint in a city where air conditioning runs eleven months a year;
• peptide protocols (the manufacturer’s BIOBTX line) that aim to soften expression lines, positioned as a support for, not a replacement of, botulinum toxin;
• vitamins, antioxidants and botanicals for dullness, post-summer pigmentation and stressed, reactive skin;
• scalp formulas that deliver actives to the hair follicles for shedding and a tight, dry scalp.

A 2013 randomised trial of injectable non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid recorded a 3 to 4 percent increase in dermal thickness and a roughly 10 percent improvement in elasticity after three sessions, but also haematomas in 36 percent of treated cheeks. Needle-free delivery trades that measurable structural gain for zero recovery. The independent view from dermatology is consistent: needle-free methods genuinely improve hydration, barrier function and tone, but they are physically unable to rebuild dermal density the way a syringe can. The two are often confused because both are "needle-free facials". HydraFacial works on the surface: vortex suction cleans pores and infuses serums into the epidermis.
